The family of Mona Rodriguez, an 18-year-old woman fatally shot by a Long Beach Unified School District safety officer, announced that they've reached a $13 million settlement of their lawsuit against the district.

Unified School District safety officer while she was sitting in a car announced Tuesday that they've reached a $13 million settlement of their lawsuit against the district.

Rodriguez's mother, Manuela Sahagun, sued Gonzalez and the LBUSD in December 2021 alleging wrongful death, excessive force, negligence and civil rights violations. "I personally don't really care about the settlement. It's not bringing back my sister," Rodriguez's brother, Omar, said Tuesday. "I don't want anybody else to go through this pain."The district issued a statement saying that while settlement talks have been under way, "we have not seen or ratified and agreement," and thus could not discuss details.

Then-Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna -- now Los Angeles County sheriff -- said at the time that Rodriguez was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car, and as the driver tried to pull away from the scene, Gonzalez fired his weapon. According to court testimony, one bullet went through the rear passenger window, with the other striking just below the handle of the rear passenger door.

Tbh. This is way too much money to compensate for her mistakes. She went looking for a fight. A fight with a minor. Maybe over a guy or whatever. She was leaving the scene. The officer saw a suspect. They didn't stop. He acted. She shouldn't have gone to the school.

She was never going to do anything with her life anyway, this is basically wining the lottery for her family.

My condolences, I’m thankful the baby wasn’t hurt and it’s good that she has something for her future. Good Luck j

Misleading headline, she wasn't. student.

This is flat out wrong! I’ve arrived at multiple schools demanding to fight their strongest student for honor and lunch and have never even seen a resource officer pull their sidearm (just a janitor). These officialers need to be trained in deescalation!

😂😂😂 I need to start doing crimes. These crooks get major payouts.

What was this adult woman doing fighting a 15 year old at a middle school?

I hope that money goes to her child

I guess you're allowed to speed in car, right towards the officer putting his life in danger doesn't mean anything. She wasn't even a student. She was there to cause havoc, to beat up an actual student. You people are suckers believing all the lies

Didn't LA defund the police and instead put in 'safety officers'? Seems like it's not working out too well

She shouldn’t of got shit went there to fight a lil girl

The biggest crime to depraved police officers isn't any kind of violence, it's actually just disobeying their orders. They are the insane, abusive parents of this country who are ready to pull out a gun and fire at the first sign of any kind of disobedience.

Was this the woman who didn’t attend the school but showed up at the school to beat up a high school student?
