Nicole Karagiannis, chief people and culture officer at health technology company Harrison.ai, said encouraging career-switchers to move into tech would play a crucial role in plugging the industry’s major skills gap.
She said Harrison.ai had recently hired someone as a junior software engineer even though they did not have a technology degree. The new employee had a background in marketing, but landed a job at Harrison.ai after completing a course with General Assembly and taking time to learn about the applications and programming languages that Harrison.ai used.Asked to explain how she evaluated a career switcher’s application, Ms Karagiannis said she looked at “a combination of things”.
To get started in AI, she recommended two free online courses: Supervised Machine Learning by Andrew Ng, and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence by Peter Norvig.
Fabulous to see nurses succeeding with tech :) Well done Catherine Stringenz! 🖥️⌨️🖱️👩⚕️🩺🏥
