SPEAKING UP: Daniel Kebede
Rumours of a close election turned out to be misplaced, as Mr Kebede stormed to victory taking 69 percent of the vote, to Ms Sweeney’s 31 percent. A delighted Mr Kebede said: “I am honoured to have been elected as the next General Secretary of the National Education Union. I would like to thank everyone who has supported and campaigned for me.
“I will not take up office until September so in the meantime I will do everything I can to build the Union’s campaign for fully funded fair pay for educators.” Although Mr Kebede picked up votes from across the union, the result will be a rare ray of light for the Left at a time when Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour has barred former leader Jeremy Corbyn from standing at the next election, and activists worry that other Leftwing MPs may be next.
Great News!
