While Dawson Rice did receive three yes votes from the American Idol judges, his audition was not aired on television.

A former North East Independent School District student received his “golden ticket” to Hollywood after auditioning for"Dawson Rice, a Brigham Young University student who graduated from Reagan High School in 2020, said Monday on Instagram that he auditioned for the singing competition and received three yes votes, but his audition did not air on TV.

NEISD voiced support for Rice on Facebook last month and said that Rice had been part of Reagan High School’s Fine Arts program, was pit captain and drum major in the Rattler Marching Band, and was part of the school choir. “More than 120,000 people tried out via Zoom auditions for the show. Dawson was one of 350 singers invited to audition before the celebrity judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie,” NEISD said in a Facebook post.
