Substitute teachers generally haven't been available this year at Almira Elementary. That hasn't fazed the school's teachers, though, particularly the group on the third floor.

Teachers at Almira Elementary, especially on the third floor, help cover classes for their colleagues when one is out from school. Photo by John KuntzCLEVELAND, Ohio – When I walk into Mr. John Whelan’s fifth-grade classroom at Almira Elementary School on a late October day, I quickly recognize that more students are there than usual.

But Almira’s teachers, especially the ones on the third floor, which consists of second grade through fifth, have fostered a strong community. The teachers know they must look out for one another and pick each other up. Ms. Hejnal also knows, though, that teachers don’t receive respect from some students and parents, which could be a reason for the low number of full-time teachers and subs available.

To help solve this problem, Mr. Whelan and Mrs. Lenahan decide to alternate the two groups daily. One day, Mr. Whelan instructs his portion of Ms. Hejnal’s students, and the next day he takes the group that was with Mrs. Lenahan.

Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton's 'Rainbowland' Removed From Wisconsin Elementary School Concert for Being 'Controversial'A Wisconsin elementary school has been at the center of headlines after it removed Miley Cyrus’ and Dolly Parton’s “Rainbowland” duet from its first-grade concert list, deeming the song “controversial.” How embarrassing. Why were they trying to force a song with 'rainbow' in the title? The reason it's so controversial, is the 🌈 lyrics and inclusion. Dolly knows what she's doing and she's fully woke now and trying to stay hip with the next gen with tad more class than Madonna. Those pushing inclusion are the most exclusive group when people don't fall in line.
