Texas Legislature's SB8, pushed by Gov. Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, allows education...

which also includes “parental bill of rights” provisions, drew more than 380 speakers who signed up to discuss it at a recent hearing. Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has been fighting for an expanded voucher-like program for years, only to encounter rural opposition in his own party, is no doubt more optimistic this year as the balance in the Senate now tilts in his favor.

The bill also restricts eligibility to current public school students or prekindergarten and kindergarten students just enrolling. This is apparently an attempt to address the concern that, as data from other large-scale voucher programs suggests, most families benefiting from private school voucher programs already attend private school.

Gov. Greg Abbott is seen before speaking on “school choice” and his support for legislation that would give parents state money to cover tuition at schools outside of the state's public school system, while speaking at Parent Empowerment Night at Covenant Christian School, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, in Conroe.

private schools crop up. Cowen likens them to subprime operations looking to cash in on your tax dollars.A woman prays during a rally about school vouchers Tuesday March 21, 2023, at Cypress Christian School in Houston. Gov. Greg Abbott spoke about the topic and asked parents to get involved by contacting their legislators.“Things will get worse with each budget cycle, and that’s where those new providers are going to start to pop up fast,” Cowen told the editorial board.

The push for private school vouchers has been funded by Defend Texas Liberty, a Christian nationalist-aligned political action committee led by a former far-right Republican state lawmaker &bankrolled by a pair of West Texas billionaires. The PAC has spent $10 million this year.

If we can afford educating illegals, we can afford to educate Texans!

Senate Bill 8 should be improved/changed because it is not a school choice bill. It is a School's Choice Bill

If this goes thru, I will be contacting a lawyer about getting my tax money back. I am childless and demand a say in how my taxes are spent. Private school parents don't have more rights than me.

If liberals weren't trying to indoctrinate children through our schools, pushing communism and identity politics. This wouldn't be happening.

HISD data will undoubtedly be the best material for promoting vouchers.

Like hillbillies who won the lottery, that surplus will be gone in five years with nothing left but 5 y/o bass boat.

FUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS

FUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS .

You owe me the money that you are supposed to pay for educating my children. Pay it up.

Oh NOW liberals are concerned with spending money. Meanwhile Biden wants to raise taxes by $4.7T And spend $7T.

Education for profit. Charter schools have history bankruptcy after they get your money.

how will this lower our property taxes?

Now do the billion(s) going to Ukraine…

Suburban business owners get a bailout at the expense of poor city and rural kids. Sounds about right for texas

When it is education, for Democrats it is never about the kids. It is about the schools and the teachers. There is no money or votes from children, but you get both from school budgets and teacher votes.

They act like everyone gets accepted to these private schools and the fact that they have to take always from already struggling public schools how does this make any sense ? Why not fund public schools more

Just be unbiased please. That goes for everyone. justsayingmcgary

And the current administration will likely line their pockets .💰💰💰

Why fund failing systems? Elite politicians send their kids to private schools. Why shouldn’t ordinary people have the same opportunity?

My Texas public school experience was hell. I was bullied and harassed by other students, and teachers did nothing, often joining in. If I'd had the option of a voucher to attend a charter school I would have begged my parents for it.

Worth it for kids to get a better education don’t you agree?

School Vouchers and School Choice programs are just segregation mechanisms that Conservatives use to Segregate themselves from Blacks, Minorities, and the Poor. Stop Voting for Conservatives‼️
