UH basketball: 'This could have been the year'

Houston guard Jamal Shead gets a high-five from guard Marcus Sasser after drawing a foul during the second half of a Midwest Regional semifinal college basketball game in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 24, 2023, in Kansas City, Mo.KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Houston men’s basketball team arrived back on campus Saturday afternoon.

“Just because it’s in Houston, that don’t mean we get extra points or something like that when we step on the floor,” All-American guard Marcus Sasser said. “We were just taking it game by game, but we fell a little short.” Roster turnover is nothing new for coach Kelvin Sampson, who has replaced bulk of his starting lineup each season during the Cougars’ current run of five straight NCAA appearances.
