Everyone? That's hyperbolic. Why does everyone need to go to college? Vocational skills are just as important to society. Also, there are people that can't think at university level. I know a young lady that can't score to get into CNA school (nurse assistant, think bedpans).
The system is not the same throughout Britain. University is free somewhere. Perhaps I will leave the author to carry out their research
Students from a poor family (i.e. only 1 parent earning) have it easier than someone whose parents are still together, as they get a grant which is worth up to 8k. Whilst students whose parents both work get no help what so ever! Their loans barely cover the rent
It's not free, their parents are paying for it. Wouldn't anyone do that for their child if they could afford to do so? Maybe the government should pay for my car finance, because some people got given a car for free, and we should be equal

In UK ? New world system is not established on equality, if you are lucky you have opportunity.
no objection but how’s it going to be funded & will courses therefore be for the brightest and not just (as now) a right of passage even if those applying appear to get in with often poor grades but parents afford the fees?
For the poor, there are numerous programs that provide financial aid. Not exactly free college, but this aid opens the door for all intellectually qualified students.
Then make it low for everyone
not free for the wealthiest, just cheaper or did you forget this:
