With back-to-back floods and snowstorms, Californians are learning the hard way that emergency workers can’t be everywhere to help everyone all at once.

For starters, residents of wealthier communities who have long relied on immediate assistance from government will probably have to become more self-reliant when it comes to preparing for and“The government will not be able to get to every single door in a significant disaster,” Ferguson warned. “It also has to be people on the ground helping each other.”

“These storms are getting more severe,” said Justin Knighten, formerly of Cal OES and now director of external affairs for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. “They’re becoming more frequent because of climate change. And so it’s even more urgent that we reflect the communities that we’re trying to engage. It is a matter of life or death.

That is particularly true in Pajaro, where many displaced residents are immigrants and have told reporters that they don’t know where to seek government help — for food, for water, for clean clothing, much less for financial assistance for rent. Some also speak Indigenous languages and haven’t been able to communicate with English- and Spanish-speaking disaster relief workers.

Much of the focus was on changing how government communicates with the public. Not just shooting out a text messages ordering evacuations, for example, but explaining ahead of time, in a culturally competent way, why it’s important to evacuate when a government order is issued.

Erika_D_Smith I’m just wondering when and what BS are they going to start saying about the poles swapping places it’s funny how they aren’t saying that could be causing different patterns but it’s by no means of anything a human person could do are change wake up people

Erika_D_Smith Climate change LOL and to really believe in something that no person & people can ever control it’s so funny that some buys into BS instead of seeing what it’s really about MONEY and all u have to do is look at stocks in anything to do with electric vehicles from a nut to battery

Erika_D_Smith The biggest mistake is believing climate change is man made. We need to deal with the impacts that nature is handing us instead of thinking we can change something that is beyond our control.

MutualAid on the other hand 🥰

Absolutely

'We lost it all.' No sure. Once it dries out, is blown out, is checked out, a lot of it will work again. Replace some parts but, especially if the electronic components are located at/near the control panels where they didn't get soaked, should work again.

government can't even build sidewalks.

the government can save us they just won’t spend the money needed like they do while saving banks

Omg. You’re finally realizing that your heroes are fucking USLESS.
