Academy Sports to donate $1M to university that wins men's, women's basketball championships

Baylor guard LJ Cryer pulls in a loose ball over Texas forward Christian Bishop in the first half of an NCAA college basketball game, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, in Waco, Texas. The odds are slim that sporting goods company Academy Sports and Outdoors will end up paying out $1 million in scholarship money, despite its promise to donate to a university that wins both the men's and women's Division 1 college basketball championship titles.

Calling it a"Texas-sized challenge," the Katy-based company said it would donate to the general scholarship fund of the school whose teams won both. Academy spokesperson Tyler Sumrall said the company has never posed a challenge like this before, but was inspired this year because both the men's and women's NCAA college basketball championships will be held in Texas. The men's Final Four will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston April 1-3, while the women's Final Four will be at the American Airlines Center in Dallas March 31- April 2.

This a essentially a carnival barkers fixed hoop game, disguised as philanthropy. Don’t even give this free media attention if academy isn’t giving some lower prizes to whomever wins each tournament. SMH

Goofy PR scam from the most overpriced sporting goods company.
