A jury was told there is "no doubt" a Northampton primary school teacher unlawfully killed her partner by her defence in court yesterday, March 13. Fiona Beal was was mentally “broken” when she stabbed Nicholas Billingham in the neck, her barrister claimed.
Prosecuting, Steven Perian KC said it was "very likely, killed Nicholas Billingham during the evening of 1st November 2021 in their bedroom" after hiding a knife in a drawer. She then "moved his lifeless body from the bedroom into the garden" before removing his things to persuade people that he had left her for another woman and using his phone "to send messages to friends, work colleagues and to his mother to pretend that he was still alive.
“Miss Beal is 49 years of age. She is a lady of good character, a partner to Nick Billingham for some 17 years, a hard-working and a thoroughly liked school teacher… in essence a lady about whom you will hear many good things as you listen to the evidence.” Prosecutors also showed jurors excerpts of a notebook found in the Cumbria property in which they allege Beal gives a "chilling account" of how she had planned and killed someone and "confesses" to Mr Billingham's murder.
