Memorial University President Dianne Timmons is under fire over questions about her Indigenous heritage. She took a voluntary six week leave amid the controversy.

Lac du Flambeau resident Marsha Panfil discusses the impacts of the Native American blockade including suspended mail service and threats made against their lives.

The controversy stems from Timmons claiming she has never benefited from her Indigenous ancestry, which she maintains is different from Indigenous identity. Members of the Assembly of First Nations perform in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, Thursday, March 31, 2022. She claims she joined the Bras d'Or Mi'kmaq First Nation tribe, a tribe which is not recognized by Native Americans or, for a brief time around 2009 when her brother submitted their genealogy.

However, public documents, including a CV as recent as 2016, show she claimed membership in the tribe over a longer period of time and CBC News found references as late as 2018.

Making history: Aurora University names a Latina as presidentA Ball State University provost and vice president for executive affairs will head to Aurora this summer to lead Aurora University. Does she have a name? What a condescending headline. Always nice to hire on the basis of race and skin color, rather than merit. I’m sure the depositors at Silicon Valley Bank UK LTD were pleased to know that the head of Financial Risk Mgmt and Model Risk was a queer person of color from a ‘working class background’.
