While North Texas students are on spring break, some of their teachers are taking part in Public Education Advocacy Day at the Texas Capitol. They’re rallying for better pay and public school funding as the legislative session continues.

“That’s one of the things that our state needs to be responsible for and make it livable,” said Honea. “There is a district about 30 to 40 miles outside of Dallas – I learned today their teachers make $30,000 a year. And that is just unbelievable to me in 2023.”, Texas teacher salaries average around $58,000 and currently rank in the bottom 10 states across the country. If some of the newly filed legislation passes this session, Texas could move into the top 10 states for teacher pay.
