Overall, 44% of adults said “the number of immigrants to the United States” should be reduced, compared to 34% who said it should remain the same and 20% who want it increased. Whereas an overwhelming majority of Republicans said they want immigration reduced, Democrats are equally split on the matter, with 27% calling for increased immigration and 27% saying immigration should be reduced.The numbers are not terribly different when the question turns to asylum.
Asked to identify what the highest priority should be for immigration policies, most people said, “Increase security at the U.S.-Mexico border.” Of all the immigration policies mentioned, “provide a way for immigrants living in the U.S. illegally to stay legally” received the least support, with 31%.More than 4 million migrants have been arrested for illegally crossing the southern border since Joe Biden became president, smashing all previous records.
Migrants from around the world are flooding our southern border because they know that if they cross the border illegally and are arrested by Border Patrol, Biden will then release them into the U.S. to live wherever they want as they claim asylum as a defense to deportation. Almost all of them will either eventually lose the asylum claims or else stop showing up in immigration court. But it doesn’t matter. Getting here was always the goal. As long as it is Biden's policy not to deport immigrants unless they commit a violent felony, immigrants know if they get into the country, they can stay as long as they don’t get in trouble.
People are fed up with the asylum system being abused in this manner, as this latest NORC poll shows.
