Tracy Cantin: Professional singer and member of the world-renowned Ryan Opera Centre says 'there is no limit to what we can achieve.' | SaltWire

:"Leave no room in your life for competition; instead lift each other up, and there is no limit to what we can achieve."How a woman from Newfoundland ended up showcasing her Melanie Jacqueline brand at New York Fashion Week and VogueCantin, who has been singing professionally for more than 10 years, says she's learned a lot over the years.

Being constantly on the road traveling from gig to gig, “I've missed more weddings, birthdays, special occasions than I can count," she says. Cantin feels that “letting go of expectations and being open to possibilities has been the biggest key to my overall artistic happiness.”When Cantin was in her final year of apprenticeship at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, she was the understudy “for the leading lady" in Anna Bolena.

"Just as the leading lady was exiting the stage, she motioned that she could no longer continue, and I went onstage in her place for the next scene. It happened so fast that I really didn't even have time to think or get nervous, and I just went for it."
