An annual, capped, R45,000 accommodation fee per student in public higher-learning institutions is sustainable, says the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.

The second, the mid-student market, targeted middle-income students with an affordability range of between R3,000 to R4,500 a month. Such accommodation typically provided larger bedrooms compared with the NSFAS market, and came with amenities and services such as student support services, entertainment areas and other social amenities. It was often occupied by students who “top up” their NSFAS accommodation allowances.

These premium packages may also include the use of student services and other amenities. The price point of upper-end student housing was between R5,000 and R8,000 a month, but in exclusive nodes and developments could top R14,000.“Given the diversified market for student accommodation, NSFAS settled for the middle ground, which is the second market segment, based on affordability,” Skosana said.

Do they know how much rent is in Pretoria for students. You're lucky to get 5000 a month sharing a room

I partially agree with some of these suggestions on the condition that NSFAS supports their students without delay and incompetence. I think student that periodically don’t perform should pay back a portion of the bursay and the more you fail the higher the percentage.

Tefsa students used to pay back their study loans so that future students can also be able to study, why don't myNSFAS beneficiaries want to pay back the loan so that future students can also access funds? Money doesn't fall from the sky, that's why government is so indebted.

Maybe there should be conditions to this? Study and no participating in protests? Fail two years in succession and you out or pay your own fees until you pass? This is taxpayers money being spent. People from all walks of life working hard and paying their taxes.

If the money being looted by the government was put to good use instead, South Africa could take better care of students.
