“I want to win and bring home the trophy,” Hinsdale Middle School seventh-grader Srinidhi Rao said after winning the Feb. 22 DuPage County Spelling Bee.

Srinidhi Rao competes in the Feb. 22 DuPage County Spelling Bee. She won that competition to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The Hinsdale resident also won her school bee and the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 competition.This is not Srinidhi’s first experience of success in the annual spelling bee competitions. As a third-grader, she earned a berth in the national Scripps meet and finished tied for 51st, nationally.

“She could spell, even in the high chair,” her mother said. “This is a great opportunity for her to go back to the National Spelling Bee. She’s getting a lot of knowledge and the opportunity to show her talents on a larger scale.”
