The trial of a former primary school teacher from Northampton accused of murdering her boyfriend after his body was found buried in her back garden is set to begin within the week. Fiona Beal, who denies murdering long-time partner Nicholas Billingham, was due to stand trial at Northampton Crown Court today, Monday March 6, but the date has since been reviewed.
Ms Beal was arrested 200 miles away at a hotel in Cumbria the same day Northamptonshire Police began conducting an extensive search of her home. She was later charged with murder.Forensic officers and specialist search teams, including a cadaver dog, were deployed to the couple's house before Mr Billingham's body was discovered four days later. The builder's body had to be identified through his dental records.
The Presiding Judge is Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking KC. Prosecuting counsel is Steven Perian KC with Andrew Wheeler KC leading the defence.
