Third-grade students at nearly 70 schools across Harris County have been involved inINSIDER NEWSLETTER:Crosby entered all four of its elementaries. All were announced as finalists in the Elite Eight on KHOU-Channel 11 last week.

Students in the 2023 program are from 189 schools in 11 districts across greater Houston, according to Carla Gomez, director of marketing and communications for the competition. “I think that was funny to me because I probably was the pesky little sister since I was the youngest in my family. I think that's what drew me in and from there I was a reading little girl and still am up to this day,” she said.

The program moves from city to city depending on where the NCAA Final Four college basketball tournament is being held. This year’s event is in Houston. Henderson met with the librarians and teachers to develop strategies to keep students focused on reading. She said the takeaway from the program is that they’ve helped students establish a habit for reading.

This year, Dorita Hatchett, senior director of community relations with the 2023 NCAA Men’s Final Four Houston Local Organizing Committee, said they wanted to expand it to schools county-wide. It’s been a record-breaking year for the competition.

On Monday night, they meet with parents to make the final vote. Maybe good teachers are leaving because they’re pushed out for not going along with DEI, CRT- can’t forget about those rotten kids who aren’t punished for disrupting the entire class and the parents don’t do anything but blame society for their equally rotten parenting. Disgusting. Parents should do something. Parents have a 5 day work week minimum. Are they supposed to hire a nanny now?
