Female pupils say they have been left "humiliated" over enforcement of a uniform policy at a Merseyside school.
The school said "the implementation of the uniform policy was carried about by staff, both male and female". He said: "I am so proud of my daughter for standing up for her beliefs, It's appalling how it's been handled."

The wearing of a ‘pelmet’ has never been recognised as being acceptable school uniform. Likewise the alternative of a pair of leggings that are so thin you can see the pattern of the wearer’s knickers through them.
We had short uniform skirts when I was in school, and they were way worse than the jeans I would have worn. Ridiculous.
This happened in the seventies. We were made to kneel on the gym floor while the lesbian coaches measured our skirt length. One of them told me I was “too big” to be wearing such a short skirt. These same coaches stood on the locker room benches to watch us undress and shower
If it’s a school rule, wear a skirt of the specified length or go to another school. It’s a school not a freaking cat walk. The imperative is education, not fashion.

I think everyone has missed the point. You’re all banging on about the right to wear skirts or not. But fing hell. There are male (grown men) teachers inspecting the girls. How creepy for the girls. This is not on. And once again society blames the girls and parents.

Girls/parents kept pushing the limit of what was acceptable at my daughter's school. It got to the point where enough was enough and the school changed the uniform policy. Now boys & girls wear trousers.
Hopefully they are looking for max length. Shorter skirt, better economy

My mum told me that the nuns use to make girls kneel down to make sure the skirts touched the floor. This was the early 70s.

Wonder how they’d feel round here. The girls who choose to wear skirts are expected to wear skirts which reach their ankles. The less local grammar enforces to the knee. Uniforms help reduce bullying of those who can’t afford trendy clothes & enforcing rules isn’t humiliating
Where does it say teachers 'measured' skirts....they inspected them. Not difficult. Like most secondary schools, policy is around knee-length. Like most secondary school girls, their skirts are around 6' higher! More about just don't like conforming 🙄

Why the need for short skirts
I mean just identify as a female while you’re doing the measuring and then identify as a male once you’re done. Or even better, identify as a tape measure.
😅As a pupil of a Covent school in the 60's & 70's ..our uniform in its entirerity was check EVERY morning on arrival and EVERY afternoon on departure from school. Skirts 5cm BELOW the knee. It never bothered me, just the 'Straw hat' and Gloves pissed me off!! 😂🤣😅

It' s not unknown that the ladies might in some instances 'shorten' their skirt for various reasons. Just saying.

Boys and girls were NOT segregated - they simply examined all the pupils wearing skirts.
If a girl has to wear a skirt (trousers should be an option), then parents just need to purchase a correct length skirt required by the school. Problem solved.

There always used to be such things as standard of dress for school. Good to see someone has the guts to bring that back. 'Wide belts' are no longer acceptable, thank goodness
FFS - in the 60s our uniform had to be 4 inches above the knee while kneeling.
So they knew the uniform policy before they turned up and now it’s the schools fault and I feel humiliated, what a time we live in
This used to happen at the grammar school I attended 40 years ago up on the stage after assembly and they'd make you turn your back and touch your toes so the rest of the school got a got a full view of your knickers if your skirt was too short, for humiliating good measure.

I’m a whole lot less worried about skirt lengths than I am about reproductive and voting rights.
It is a place of education not a night club you should dress appropriately, some pupils don’t and have to be told, put it this way if a staff member hitched their skirt up then parents would be complaining.
