“I think with time, it switched to a goal for all of us Ukrainians and hopefully the democratic rest of the world, into seeing this as a way of stopping this war and bringing peace. So for me, when I compete and represent my country or Team Alberta or my club provincially, it’s a way of showing that no matter what’s going on, you have to stay positive.
Earlier this week, Troyan won bronze medals in the trampoline synchro and team competitions at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island as part of Team Alberta. Last November, he finished 17in his first appearance at the Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he represented Ukraine. He also continues to study English and take online classes in political science from the Taras Shevchenko National University in the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv.
“I know people who had to leave the country because they couldn’t handle it mentally; waking up every day to that sound, hearing screams, it was horrible. It’s very hard to talk about. “It shouldn’t be a thing the Olympic Committee is thinking about,” he said. “It’s just absurd to me and my fellow teammates and people I compete with here in Canada. It shouldn’t be brought up. People and athletes of Russia shouldn’t be allowed in any sport competition. Most people know the history of the Olympics, which were formed to have peaceful, fair competition. We are not seeing that from the enemy.
Why bring politics into sports? Its not fair
After the US manufactured a phony reason to invade Iraq and slaughtered a million people.. Were they still allowed in the Olympics?
Are we supposed to guess? Is this jeopardy?
