Kinsey died in 1956. Last year, the university installed a bronze statue of Kinsey on its flagship Bloomington campus where he worked and founded what would become the Kinsey Institute. Sweet accused the institute of harboring sex offenders and said she didn’t want to see state dollars going to support it. The university did not immediately respond to a request for comment.There is no line item in the state budget for the Kinsey Institute, though Indiana University does receive state funding.
Rep. Cindy Ledbetter, R-Newburgh, supported the amendment because she said her work as a nurse practitioner requires her to complete continuing education and that has included training from the Kinsey Institute on how to administer gender-affirming medications to transgender children. Afterward, Pierce accused the Republican supermajority that supported the amendment of pandering to the far right for political gain.
