I don’t agree with the general tenor of this article, but the concerning aspect of his views (if I take the portrayal of them in good faith) has more to do with intellectual competence than their capacity to offend. It’s hard to challenge irrational emotions academically.

I utterly disagree with Finnis' views, but he is entitled to them. Your views may be totally different to many and indeed offensive to them, that doesn't mean you should be gagged.

A childish article from the complacent, self-righteous, entitled bullies of generation snowflake. Freedom of speech for those who agree with us; ostracism for the rest.

Very scary argument: censor views we don't like. 'students should not encounter...' unsettling views about basically ring fenced subjects by their teachers. No. Pecisely the opposite! Anything to wake up dull brains slavishly accepting right on orthodox popular opinions.

Sometimes, when I hear ideas that I disagree with, or which perhaps make me unsettled, I just walk away and ignore them.

I'm not sure Finnis's comments are being taken in context. I haven't read the article where he made them, but I suspect they are more nuanced and situational than the campaign against him lets on.

Couldn’t disagree more. Not because I agree Finnis’ views (I don’t) but ideas, even bad ones, need to be discussed and discounted in forums such as universities. If a student is concerned about being offended, or hurt, by his words, simply, don’t take his classes.

Who appointed them as the thought police?

What he wrote, and repeated in interview this morning, is not ‘a view’ it’s verbal abuse and therefore not legitimate academic discourse

God forbid you should hear a contrary opinion - how outrageous.
