An Australian professor and three colleagues are believed to have been taken hostage in a remote area of Papua New Guinea.

The ABC understands a group of armed men in the Highlands region took the four researchers at gunpoint.The group consists of the Australian professor, a Papua New Guinean program coordinator plus two University of PNG graduates, who were in the area doing field study.
