As part of that effort and under the terms of the debt plan voted on by its creditors last year, the school is legally required to hire a couple of consultants to lead the operational restructuring of the school and help build a new strategic plan for the institution.
Laurentian has ended the candidate search for the consultants it is required to hire and is in the process of evaluating the proposals it has received. “Again, I point out that these are requirements of the Plan of Compromise and Arrangement, and that the consultants are to work with us, help us create our plan, not to impose their plan on us,” said Embleton, in her report. “It is crucial for everybody to take all the opportunities for consultation, to make sure that all have input into the plans going forward.”
Embleton said in her Feb. 14 report that the letter requesting an amendment to the Laurentian University Act was sent to Ministry of Colleges and Universities , seeking to permit representation of up to a maximum of two LUFA members as voting members of the board of governors; and representation of up to a maximum of one Laurentian University Staff Union member as a voting member of the board of governors.
Search committees are also being formed for the search for the university’s new permanent president and provost, as well as vice-president of finance and administration. Beyond the cuts related to LU’s insolvency, several professors have left Laurentian since that time and were not replaced while the CCAA was ongoing.
