Alvin ISD named one of Texas' best districts for theater programs

Alvin ISD among one of nine Texas school districts to receive the Premiere Communities for Theatre Education 2022-2023 Award.Alvin ISD is one of nine Texas school districts that has won a state theater education award based on a broad range of factors including curriculum, safety and facilities.

"This distinction is also a nod to the tremendous support by each facet of our administration," she said. This is the first year the distinction has been rewarded to schools. The nine winners were chosen from 1,062 Texas districts. The distinction can aid districts in advocating for state funding for theater programs.

Involvement in theater can benefit students who have been struggling after the pandemic, said John Grimmett, Alvin High School's theater director. He said he has seen an increase in students who deal with anxiety, mental health issues and problems with self-expression.
