The Ottawa\u002DCarleton District School Board\u0027s proposed policy states it must provide \u0022reasonable accommodations\u0022 to facilitate participation.

Schools sponsor a wide variety of field trips, from excursions to Europe, to sporting events and to visits to local museums. The board has a duty to accommodate all students and eliminate barriers due to socioeconomic status, disability or gender accommodations during overnight trips, states the staff report.Article content

“The barrier there is someone has to ask … and that is something we are working on proceduralizing: how people don’t have to raise their hand and say ‘I’m living in poverty, can you please help me?’ “And if you live in a wealthy area, and you have parents with wealthy friends, that’s a great way of fundraising. If you live in an area which is struggling with poverty, all of your neighbours are broke, all of your parents are broke and all or many of their friends are broke. So it can be a lot more difficult to fundraise.”“We’ve already started to implement that.”

Don’t take all the fun away from school. Trips and activities make students feel connected to the school and their peers. Find a way to help those who want to participate but need some financial help. OCDSB

maybe cut the bureaucracy at board office and reduce the amount of woke staff and money could be actually given to students activities
