Inspectors of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA rescued a starving pony from a school property in Bridgetown. The pony was discovered thoroughly emaciated, lying on the ground, unable to get up.

Last week, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA received a complaint about a pony that was being starved with no access to food or water. The inspectorate team immediately jumped into action to investigate the matter.

The inspectors found the pony lying on the ground, unable to get up. The pony was emaciated with no access to food or water. It was evident to the inspectors that the pony was in need of immediate intervention, and the SPCA’s Horse Care Unit was called in to bring a horse box. When the Horse Care Unit’s help arrived, the team had to lift Rainbow Dash as he was unable to get up by himself. Even though Rainbow Dash was emaciated, it was not an easy task to get him onto his feet.

It took four team members to lift the pony, handle him safely and slowly walk him into the horse box. After having no luck locating an owner, Rainbow Dash was taken to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Horse Care Unit, where he was examined by the SPCA’s veterinary team and prescribed a special diet for weight gain. The owner later came forward and chose to surrender Rainbow Dash to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, admitting he was unable to properly care for him.

Rainbow Dash’s road to recovery is long and costly, and the SPCA asks anyone who can open their hearts and wallets to contribute to Rainbow Dash’s care until they can find a forever home for him. “We are appealing to our donors to please make a donation to assist us in nurturing Rainbow Dash to good health. It is extremely expensive to care for horses, and we need your support. The SPCA receives no funding from the government and relies on donations from the public in order to function,” the rescue foundation said.
