The President of the Teachers Union said that Schexnayder is not the only teacher living on the edge.
He said West Contra Costa School District teachers are among the lowest paid in the Bay Area. They’re currently at an impasse with the district as they fight for higher wages. The district acknowledges teachers are struggling. In a statement they said, “WCCUSD is working rapidly to readjust budget priorities in recognition that many of our educators are currently experiencing economic hardship, which has been worsened by rising inflation and the economic climate of the greater Bay Area.” “I don’t regret coming here because I love that I’m chasing my dream. But it makes me sad to know I’m doing this while most times sleeping in my car,” said Schexnayder.
“It’s not a personal thing. I believe it’s a Bay Area, California thing, where there are people that are working jobs getting up going to work and yet still doesn’t have a safe, comfortable place to live,” said Schexnayder. “It makes me really sad.”
My buddy makes 100k teaching, with a bachelor's, why can't you live here on 100k?
Wrong field of work.
Many such cases, thanks for keeping it real.
We feel you teacher! CA and mostly the bay area is not a place to try to establish and have a family. There's no economic balance, everything inflated 🤬
Consider teaching where living is more affordable. Do like everyone else is doing ... FLEE.
