Report released Monday by the Financial Accountability Office projects a $5-billion shortfall in health care expenditure and $1.1-billion less than required for the education sector

Financial Accountability Officer Peter Weltman said overall spending is expected to be lower over the next three years than the province initially planned, as $12.5-billion set aside isn’t needed to deliver existing programs. This is largely attributable to contingency funds, which he said are bigger than usual. Typically around $1-billion, the government allocated $3.5-billion in its contingency funds this fiscal year.

Sheila Block, senior economist for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, said the projected underfunding in health care and education is “deeply disturbing” when the government has a significant amount of money that can cover the shortfalls. Responding to the FAO report, Ontario’s Ministry of Finance defended the spending plans, pointing to an overall spending increase of $7.9-billion from the previous fiscal year, including more in both the health care and education sectors.

Highways and destroying the greenbelt is more important

Underspend until it's broken, then say the only solution is privatization. Simple playbook strategy used repeatedly by many governments to avoid fixing things. FordfailedOntario

And overspending on useless highways.

Ontario needs to hike taxes, if they have been borrowing all. of this money and they are still underspending on health care. They have no plan to pay down their debt. It is far higher than any state by debt to GDP and per Capita and it compares to Greece.

We all knew it fordnation

I mean...Ontario Nurses are at the bargaining table with the OHA this month.... *hint hint* fordnation

Of course they are! That's their M.O.!! Health Care & Education are the two largest budget lines, so they cut cut cut both to look good! Buying votes from those that don't understand that these are the two most important pillars of our society - and deserve $$ as such!

What a surprise. Manufacturing a crisis so that for profit healthcare looks like the only solution.

Ford's exact strategy. Create a crisis and say it's all broken to bring in your shady agenda. That is DougFord healthcare spaikin ChmlBillKelly CityCynthia ColinDMello RichardCityNews
