Funding for the school, which has been in the works since 2018, was announced today by Sault MPP Ross Romano on behalf of Ontario's Education Minister Stephen Lecce. The school will have facilities for 381 students from Junior Kindergarten to grade 12 from the Algoma District School Board and the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord . It will also add 64 new childcare spaces in the community.
The school is a collaboration betwen the two school boards but its significance is also heralded as a boon to the community by Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman. She lauded the opportunity to have children in Blind River educated in both official languages and enthusiastically welcomed the addition of 54 new childcare spaces that will be available in the new school.
Lucia Reece, ADSB Director of Education, said the board will be visiting the community and talking with families soon to share drawings and begin the naming process for its part of the new school.
