I worked as a teacher in a pre-school classroom. One student (age4+) constantly hit the other kids, as well as myself. Nothing was done by management. Paying family of two children meant more than keeping qualified staffing.
An IEP doesn’t protect a child that chokes someone with intent. He threatened other children with a belt. Teachers n the GC were concerned, made complaints. A suspension followed by a mental health checkup b/4 returning, a CPS home check were critical.

I'm really curious about what his life was like at home. I feel like 6 is an age where you're kind of accountable for your behavior, but you're very vulnerable to being shaped by experiences at home, such as abuse. I just feel sorry for him, and the teacher.

Why don’t we all just admit it? Mainstreaming seemed like a good idea at the time it was begun but in practice it’s been an abject failure. Special ed kids need specially trained educators in a protected and safe environment with whatever accommodations are necessary.
