Navy Nguyen, a fifth-year student at Cape Breton University: "It would be very interesting to hear how CBU would handle this." IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY — Cape Breton University’s faculty association says it should learn by Tuesday morning whether its membership had ratified a tentative agreement with the university.
“We’re glad to have a tentative agreement, and we should know by the morning whether we have reached a deal,” MacIntyre said. “We’ll be just glad that our faculty won’t be out standing in the cold and they’ll all be back in classes and doing what we’re supposed to be doing,” said Ngyuen. “Which is: to teach us, and for us to learn and be educated.”
“When we initially had our discussion with finance and operations on the board of governors, he mentioned that they will definitely compensate students for their lost study time,” Singh said. Initial plans called for an indoor silent protest, sitting near a location where a board of governors’ emergency meeting was set to take place. But before the demonstration was set to begin, the group received word that due to what was explained as “security reasons,” the students could not be inside near the board meeting and instead were advised to take their protest outside.
