A revised curriculum for a new Advanced Placement course on African American studies downplays some components that drew criticism from conservatives. Topics such as Black Lives Matter, slavery reparations and queer theory will no longer be taught.

“The fact of the matter is that this landmark course has been shaped over years by the most eminent scholars in the field, not political influence,” the organization said in a written statement.

The students at Baton Rouge Magnet High School were aware of the political controversy over the course. But the class on Monday was filled with discussion of the Négritude and Negrismo movements that celebrated Black culture and a painting by the Afro-Asian-Latino artist Wifredo Lam. A spokesperson for DeSantis on Wednesday said the state education department is reviewing the revised curriculum for compliance with Florida law.

These classes should not exist in the first place. People should be taught to respect law and order

Oh my goodness. We don’t need to be teaching students about the domestic terrorists of BLM, or the nonsense that certain levels of skin pigment deserve reparations from people with different levels of skin pigment.

Homosexuality is not accepted most Black communities. Shocking as it may be to virtual signaling white people.

Good! The radical left is trying to rewrite history and diminish achievements by white men!

class action lawsuit will be filed against the college board asap

Black American History Inferior blacks sold by superior blacks to whites blacks used to picked cotton blacks freed Special laws passed so they can compete 60 years of Affirmative Action and no progress Crime increases in cities as black population increases Any lies there?

shouldn’t queer theory be its own AP course?

When I first heard about the Tulsa Massacre, Lincoln’s idea to send enslaved people to Texas, and the existence of Shirley Chisolm, it was as an adult. I felt cheated out of an education & it pisses me off! We were all cheated of a well-rounded education & we should all be pissed

Are “The lives, contributions, and stories of trans, queer, and non-binary/non-conforming people” part of any AP History class? Teaching reparations or BLM from one side only is indoctrination, not teaching.

The number one threat to Black trans queer community is the BLACK CHURCH. fullstop

I get teachers need their income. But how anyone can not walk off after this, Idk. I know there are no protests allowed for them, but if they don't all walk out in solidarity, this is only going to get worse. It's appeasement. They are asking for more restrictions by staying.

Attend a community college as a high school and get dual enrollment credit instead.

Why should queer theory be taught in K-12?

Good. LOL

Teaching Marxism, Violent Rebellion and Queer theory never had a place in a Black History class in the first place. They need to revise the people they buy material from.

They caved to Ron DeSantis. I hope the other states that have this same course reject the new 'DeSantis version' & continue to use the original version.

Yup, it's starting to happen. The academics are going to cave in, just like Germany in the 30's. They will compromise themselves into the wastebin of history.

Caving to fascists never ends well. DeSantis banned library books, black history, and any mention of gay people. Soon he'll want to ban everything that doesn't promote white supremacy & Christian nationalism. Americans better wake up to the danger of unchecked authoritarianism.

So all the cultural neo-Marxism that was added the last couple of years was removed.

Why not just human history?

'Criticism from conservatives' isn't criticism. It never is. Just call it ignorance and stupidity.

“Queer theory” has nothing to do with AA Studies. BLM is a very controversial political organization. If you’re going to mention them then do it fairly and mention the corruption and lack of progress.

It's all about selling books to the State of Florida. They're not stupid. They know where their bread gets buttered.

Don’t let that racist Ron DeSantis get what he wants! 😣

Fuck that

College Board Shrinks Advanced-Placement Curriculum for African-American StudiesThe College Board released a revised version of its curriculum for a new advanced-placement class that covers African-American studies days after the draft was denounced by the governor of Florida as “indoctrination” So was there play then 'Let's see if we can get this through and if we get caught, we'll send them the revised version but we'll only change the name of the chapters and leave most of that stuff in' Good for DeSantis. Easy target for conservative politicians & media. Lever it professors to rebrand the same lesson plan, to get notoriety, federal grants, book deals, & press coverage all to the detriment of progress. Getting bogged down by titles & branding is not what teaching is about.
