Schools are expected to open back up on Thursday.Hays County CISD and San Marcos CISD are announcing early releases and school closures ahead of the winter weather that’s expected to chill the area starting Monday afternoon.
In an email to parents sent Monday morning, Hays CISD announced early dismissals due to “inclement, icy weather beginning late this afternoon and again during the morning commutes both on Tuesday and Wednesday.” On Monday, high schools will dismiss at 1 p.m., middle schools will dismiss at 2 p.m., and elementary schools will dismiss at their normal time, 2:55 p.m. Buses will operate at the early dismissal times.On Tuesday and Wednesday, all Hays CISD schools and offices will remained closed due to the weather. Schools are expected to open back up on Thursday.
In the San Marcos CISD, high schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m., middle schools at 1:40 p.m., and elementary schools and Bonham at 2 p.m. Monday. Schools and offices will remain closed Tuesday, and staff will monitor the weather to determine whether they will reopen on Wednesday. The Hill Country is under a winter storm warning through Wednesday afternoon, and it’s expected to see freezing rain and ice accumulation over the next couple of days. Much of the area is not expected to warm above freezing until Wednesday.
