🔴 A nationwide teacher strike will go ahead on Wednesday after last-ditch talks between unions leaders and the Education Secretary failed to lead to any progress in an ongoing pay dispute

School leaders have complained that current strike laws, which mean union members are not required to notify their employers if they plan to strike, mean they will not know the scale of disruption until Wednesday morning.

Disruption will vary across the country on Wednesday, with schools rolling out contingency plans that include everything from total shutdowns to David Attenborough documentaries being shown in classrooms. They argue that teachers’ pay has fallen by almost a quarter in real terms since 2010, and that the profession faces a recruitment and retention crisis fuelled by low salaries.after five years on current pay levels, according to the NEU.

NEU teacher strikes: Government and union to meet for last-ditch talksEducation Secretary Gillian Keegan will meet union chiefs in an effort to avert Wednesday's walkout. We haven't worked so hard to overcome the anti-union laws and get a national vote over the threshold just to stop because of empty promises (assuming there even are any). The government needs to give the public sector a decent pay rise. Teachers, nurses, the lot. Talk about what? Can’t see that being any use. The Tories have laid out their table and money for teachers is not on it is it worth it? I doubt the sec for education has the power to settle the dispute. the powerful cabal behind the scenes pulls the strings that make this puppet government dance.
