Students from Gahanna Lincoln High School's special education program perform a magic show as part of the national MagiFest Convention 1-27-2023.Tim Caslin stood tall on center stage with six of his classmates from Gahanna Lincoln High School’s special education program at the national MagiFest Convention being held at the Renaissance Hotel in Columbus.
The students from the special education program, called the Extended Support Services , performed a trick involving the“Our students are performing these magic tricks and they are having fun, and they are working on skills they don’t even know they are working on,” said Jill Evans, an intervention specialist at Gahanna Lincoln. “It’s amazing.”
Teaching the students magic tricks helps students in the special education program improve their hand-eye coordination, confidence, speech and language skills, math and reading skills, public speaking, research and writing skills, technology skills and teamwork, Evans said. Tiffany Hanna, an intervention specialist at the high school, said the students practice their magic trick weekly and then daily as the show gets closer.
