Before the Department of Education presented its first-ever Basic Education Report , lawmakers met with education experts from various fields to have a strategic discussion for the country’s education reform.The BER 2023, to be delivered by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Jan. 30, will present the current challenges and the sector priorities of the agency.During the Strategic Planning Session held at the University of the Philippines, BGC Campus on Jan.

“The issues that we face today have just been ‘cut and pasted’ between 1990 and 2022,” Senator Win Gatchalian, EDCOM 2 Co-Chair, said in his welcome remarks. During the event, UP Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Cynthia Bautista also presented a talk on “Understanding ‘Poor Learner Outcomes’,” where she discussed the detrimental effects of a weak education system on the students.
