Neither Cape Breton University administration nor the Cape Breton University Faculty Association offered any changes to their proposed salary increases, which has caused a standstill in nine-month-long contract negotiations. Both sides had until 12 a.m on Jan. 27 to make an offer to bring representatives from both parties back to the table. Since it wasn't done, the strike started at 6:30 a.m. and about 30 faculty association members took to the picket line around the same time. The strike is affecting thousands of students. It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
