Sydney mum Corryn Harding sold her car and gave her children school bags for Christmas. The Smith Family says it's part of a bigger picture affecting families across Australia.

"Starting halfway through last year, I started collecting stuff," she said.

"I catalogue surf. I go from Coles to Aldi to Woolworths to get all the cheapest items, so I don't spend so much."A survey of 2,000 families doing it tough by charity The Smith Family, which has launched a push for new sponsors, has found thousands of children will this year miss out on essential items like digital devices, uniforms and shoes.

The survey found nearly nine out of 10 parents and carers were worried about being able to afford everything their children needed, while more than half thought they couldn't afford the digital devices they needed for their schoolwork.Four in 10 thought their children would miss out on other school supplies, such as exercise books and stationery.

This is absolutely horrible the thing people say in the comments you don’t know there life you don’t know nothing about Corryn or her family and the struggles she has been through especially these last few year’s coming from someone who is actually related

Does she have a job ? And what support from the father ?

Fair enough though. She did the right thing. Families have to start cutting back. Although it does look like her eldest daughter has cut back too far on those custom jeans.

Single mum living with consequences of her life choices. This isn't news. DefundTheABC

Corryn is not skimping on the groceries it seems.

Where are the father or fathers of these children and why are they not helping to pay for school supplies for their children ?

cutting back on the fast food might help

Soon a lot of Australians won't be able to afford a car at all when we are forced to buy electric cars. The 7-10 year battery replacement will be from $13,000 to $20,000 alone.

I was homeless for three months because the Child Support Agency refused to listen.

Albo, Chambers couldn't give a rats ass. Albo used to live in public housing but now he's just another elitist politician.

I understand that the survey undertaken was from 2,000 families, means there is a huge number who can afford school supplies. Organisations like Teen to Teen and various others surely can help.

cheaper mode of transports trains, trams, buses

Why have 3 kids when clearly you can’t afford it

The lucky country

The article doesn't say whether Corryn has a job. If not, why not? If she does have a job, consider a second job (like so many others do) to support your family. Life is tough (particularly after a failed marriage) but take responsibility.

She Certainly hasn’t struggled with buying food.

My wife used govt vouchers to buy our 2 kids stuff, paying 90% with the vouchers. This doesn’t mean we haven’t struggled funding other life essentials. Just noting

Why do not the companies that want to get their employees working on Australia Day, donate that day to working family’s and those less fortunate rather than bask in the brown sun of bull shit.

Rental crises, Australians living in a car, Albo solution, increase immigration. Pensioners skipping meals to pay power bills, Albo solution a Carbon tax that will put the cost of power up even higher.
