Gardaí have requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office and it’s expected that Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margot Bolster, will carry out a postmortem on the deceased later.
“There are a lot of very distressed people as we gather that some other patients were in the ward at the time and some nurses may also have seen what happened,” said one garda source. The man, who is also from Churchfield, is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act which allows gardaí to detain suspects for up to 24 hours before they have to be charged or released.
