Bedford’s Andrew Coxhead, a second-year forward with the Saint Mary’s Huskies, leads Team Canada into Saturday's men's hockey semifinal of the FISU World Winter University Games in New York. - U SPORTSAndrew Coxhead may not have claimed world junior gold, but he and fellow U Sports hockey all-stars may have been instrumental in determining the Canadian team that won it all earlier this month in Halifax.
While world junior standouts like tournament leading scorer Connor Bedard, team captain Shane Wright and Dylan Guenther, who scored the golden goal in overtime in the final against Czechia, didn’t play in the exhibition games, Coxhead faced off against bubble players who eventually made the cut. That included, among others, Adam Fantilli, Brennan Othmann and Joshua Roy, who finished second in Team Canada scoring.
While they didn’t represent Canada at the world juniors, 11 players from that U Sports all-star team are representing the country at the FISU Winter World University Games in upstate New York. After he returns from the University Games on Monday night, Andrew Coxhead will be back in the Saint Mary's lineup on Wednesday when the Huskies face the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville. - SMU ATHLETICS“I have never been to the Olympics but this is what it probably feels like on a smaller scale,” Coxhead said. “You kind of get that feeling with all of the athletes and all of the countries.
