Parents demand B.C. schools do more to improve school air quality as triple epidemic rages

Since COVID arrived in 2020, the Education Ministry says it has spent $153 million on 260 ventilation improvement projects at schools, including filter upgrades and replacement of air handling units.

It did say, however, that stand-alone HEPA, or high-efficiency particulate absorbing, filtration units have been purchased for all classrooms and portables with no mechanical ventilation across B.C. The rest of Ottawa’s money was spent on improving ventilation systems, upgrading or replacing filters, and increased utility costs to run the air circulation devices more, the ministry’s email said.
