in Dallas is featuring a limited-time exhibit curated and researched by public history graduate students at The University of Texas at Dallas. The exhibit, entitled “History Resides Here: How Jim Crow and Urban Development Shaped a House, Neighborhood and City” is open to visitors now through Feb. 28.
The project, led by Dr. Whitney Stewart, is an exploration of Old City Park’s Shotgun House, and its original surrounding neighborhood in North Dallas at the time. Taking note of Jim Crow Laws and their impact on the construction and development of the City of Dallas, the students’ project looks deeper into the communities constructed by Black residents of Dallas in the face of adversity., assistant professor of history at UT Dallas about the exhibit.
