Hilliard City Schools Superintendent David Stewart released a statement Wednesday to “set the record straight” in response to a federal civil suitThe parents filed a complaint in federal court in Columbus on Monday in which they asked the court to issue an order prohibiting teachers from discussing sexual matters with students and to prohibit Hilliard teachers from wearing badges that show their support for LGBTQ+ students.
"The parents are asking the Court for a declaratory judgment that would affirm their firmly established constitutional rights to direct the upbringing of their children," Brown said in a statement. Stewart said while this was not a practice adopted by the district or even a majority of its teachers, when he became aware of it, he told the administration that Hilliard City Schools does not endorse the practice.
The"I’m here" badges worn by teachers include a QR code on the back that links to a list of resources for teachers. The lawsuit alleges some of those online resources are sexually explicit or inappropriate. The QR codes were covered and the district is not aware of any student accessing the QR code, Stewart said. The complaint accuses Hilliard teachers of addressing issues with students that a counselor should be handling.

The fact that these parents initiated this lawsuit proves the necessity of the “I’m here” badges…
