When Joe Corona embarked on a professional soccer career after a stellar high school run at Sweetwater High School and one season at San Diego State, San Diego Loyal SC did not exist.
“Very happy, very excited,” said Corona, who was the 2008 Union-Tribune Player of the Year and first-team All CIF while leading Sweetwater to a section championship. “Glad we were able to get something done, especially a little earlier as opposed to closer towards the season starting. The timing just really came together and I’m happy to be part of the club right here in San Diego.
“He really ticks a lot of boxes,” Miller said. “It’s important to bring a hometown player back to San Diego - that fits in with our overall mission. He’s played in big games, in big moments. He can be a locker room leader. And he’s still a top, top player. Just a very important signing for us.”
