An Alief school got a much-needed facelift on Monday, thanks to a group of volunteers who also happen to be military veterans.

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit organization that connects vets with new missions in under-resourced communities.for a day of service for Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday.

The group chose Youngblood in honor of a beloved school counselor, Donna Pennie Jones, who had previously worked with The Mission Continues and passed away in November 2019. The beautification project had students and adults working together to install a canopy to provide shade at the bus pickup, build new playground benches, paint colorful pavers for a walkway and plant flowers.
