The State College Area School District lists a series of actions it has taken to meet the request of 3 middle school girls who want to play hockey.

WILLIAMSPORT – The State College Area School District says it is complying with a federal court order to take all measures to ensure three middle school girls have the opportunity to play ice hockey.Judge Matthew W. Brann’s Dec. 1 order.

Brann also ordered the district to remediate the harm caused by it not providing them an opportunity to play by recruiting female students and promoting their participation in its club program.The district and the board of the Ice Hockey Club , a parent-run booster organization that helps facilitate the district’s ice hockey program, agreed to work together to create a second middle school team.

During the week of Jan. 3, announcements were made and notices posted at the three middle schools requesting students/parents express interest in a second team.An informational meeting is scheduled Tuesday with the parents and students who have expressed an interest in playing middle school hockey. The offer was rejected as was one to create a separate school-sponsored team that was independent of the hockey club.
