Children told to stay home from school if sick amid high levels of flu, Covid and scarlet fever

Prof Hopkins said uptake of the flu vaccine remained low among young children, but it was still available for:some secondary school children

Absence rates across schools in England rose sharply at the start of December as more pupils missed class due to illness. Overall absence rates up to that week surpassed the whole of the 2021 autumn term, when Omicron was taking hold.

Oh thank god for all this eye opening advice ...............sigh

Hiding from infections is what is making kids sicker than ever. They all have immune deficiency from hiding.

Yes obviously. And they always did until this unbelievably thick government set impossible attendance targets. And started demanding ill children come to school regardless.

Basic common sense then

More scaremongering. There is no risk of anything. I wish somebody would hold the media accountable.

But the majority of children are getting sick every few weeks. My son's been poorly enough to have to stay home 3 times last term but with no means of catching up or having the work online. The schools need to do more to help kids that stay home.

Crikey if it was up to me when I was a kid I would hardly been there !

Common sense at last, but parents (and schools?) seem to be under extraordinary pressure to reach this ridiculous 100% attendance figure. It needs to stop. Health is more important.

Children’s immune systems will weaken if we start doing this.

Here we go again.

This is normal… typical bbc sensationalising things

They haven’t been at school for 2 weeks ! Everyone has got reduced immunity from wearing masks so this will be the first year everyone builds it back up. But it won’t if you keep them from school. Can understand if they have one of the bad ones but not just for colds

Do the teachers need a longer crimbo break

Did they explain who should stay off work to look after them? The train driver parent? The ambulance driver parent? The nurse parent?

FFS Here we go..more reasons why this country so weak..just crack on and ignore this shite

Only stay home if they have all three.

You tell that to our school! On your back of your child is off and post weekly attendance percentages of each class to shame the kids of have time off

So they are saying stay at home but then my daughter is off from school with tonsillitis and I'm getting letters from the school about poor attendance. Make up your mind

Shouldn't that be the norm?

How are you not screaming for ministerial blood for this castrophe?

Just slip some scarlet fever in there why don't you....

Common sense strikes again !

I swear there's people who go out when their ill just to deliberately make others ill.

Government let it rip in schools. Now we are seeing the price.

Have school attendance officers been told of this change in policy?

Might have been easier if they weren't kept home for so long over the last couple of years.

Told by who? It’s certainly not the DfE or OFSTED. Ofstednews educationgovuk

This advice was a lot easier to follow when only one parent needed to work to pay the bills

This is basic common sense and good parenting.

We can't afford to have another lockdown. Read more here covid lockdown global ukgovernment

Bullshit!! Kids need to be mixing properly for the following: a) Social development b) Strengthen immune systems c) Education d) Mental well-being Leave them be ffs!!!

Parents will decide what's best for their children.
