What’s lost here is the attempt to discourage blacks from wrestling. Black hair is viewed as abrasive and hair covering is arbitrary and subjective. Unfortunate.

Crybabies. The kid who had to cut his hair (per rules) won. And the the school district decided not to let to participate in any matches in which the ref in question officiate...sounds like sour grapes to me.
The official should never officiate again. The school shouldn’t have to skip meets.

What's the point of having rules if you're going to change them the first time a kid doesn't want to follow them? Just wait till this kid gets into the business world and he wants to break a rule.
This could have been dealt with differently & had a better outcome on both sides. Rules were broken (hair rules), instead of publicly humiliating athlete, the ref could have privately taken him & his coach aside & asked him to cut it before the match. ProblemSolved BothWin
The ref was way outta bounds. But how come the coach didn’t address his athlete? It is in the rule book. I’m sure the kid knew, the coach, and numerous others. But why even have standards if we’re not willing to enforce them? Or scared because of skin tone....
Just another reason our society is going to hell in a hand basket. No accountability, no discipline , no God, and complete humanistic permissiveness.

The team should not have to forfeit/skip these matches—that ref should no longer be allowed to officiate any sporting events. Why must kids always do the sacrificing?
I understand now there is more to this story and this referee should have never even been allowed to hold such a position. Personally? If it were my child (I am THAT Parent) The referee and I would have had a chat out behind the building.

That boy chose to cut his hair. He could have said no and not wrestled. He knew and skirted the rules. Fact is his dreds were finally too long. But no let’s blame the ref for doing his job. Another case of let’s not hold AA to the same standards.

Sooooo this action is pointless now considering that his hair has already been cut & what actually is this proving besides the fact that he can’t wrestle anymore for the time being When the school should of intervene they stayed on the sidelines. Smh.

What a terrible message to send to children. Stop catering to a child's every whim. It's hair. It's his fault he was put in that position to cut his hair or forfeit the match. He wasn't asked to cut off a leg. Our public school system is a joke.
